[Workout Wednesday] The 2-Minute Workout

No time to hit the gym? Boost your metabolism and tone up in just a few minutes per day with this 2-minute workout!
Seriously? A 2-minute workout? Is that for real?
In fact, numerous studies have found that you don’t have to exercise in 1-hour or even 30-minute time blocks to gain the benefits of exercise. All the exercise that you do throughout your day adds up – even if it’s just a few minutes at a time.
Sure, you’re not going to lose a bunch of weight if your only exercise is 2 minutes per day, but at the same time, it’s cliche’ but true that the most effective kind of exercise is the kind you do! If you never exercise because you don’t have time to go to the gym, this 2-minute workout may, indeed, improve your health – especially if you do it several times per day.
For example, do these 3 simple exercises for 30-seconds each, 5 times throughout your day, and you’ve gotten 10 extra minutes of exercise. Take a 2-minute break from your desk once an hour, and you’ve gotten almost 20 minutes of exercise in by the time you leave the office. Couple that with a brisk 10-minute walk on your lunch break, and you’re done for the day – no gym membership required!
These exercises require no equipment or special attire, so you can do them anywhere, anytime. They make an energizing start to your day, and give your metabolism a quick boost, while providing a toning effect to your entire body. You can do one set at a time as shown below if you’re pressed for time, or repeat the circuit 3-4 more times for a more intense and effective workout – still in just a few minutes.
- Burpees x 30 seconds
- Jump squat x 30 seconds
- Reverse lunge x 30 seconds on each leg
