[Workout Wednesday] 20-Minute Morning Strength & Stretch Workout

Build strength & flexibility in one quick routine with this 20-minute morning workout…

When life gets busy, it’s easy for exercise to become another thing on your to-do list. But sometimes, a good workout doesn’t have to be complicated or take a lot of time. A little strength work followed by some feel-good stretching can be a wonderful way to start your day feeling stronger, more mobile, and more prepared for whatever comes your way.

This strength and stretch workout from PS Fit is a great example.

In this follow-along workout, prenatal and postpartum trainer Arielle Creager leads you through a combination of strength-training exercises and a relaxing stretch session designed to support the movements we use in everyday life.

Whether you’re carrying a little one, hauling groceries and backpacks, working at a desk, or simply want to feel stronger climbing the stairs, this workout focuses on practical, functional strength.

A Workout for Real Life

One of the things I like about this workout is that it isn’t about complicated exercises or pushing yourself to exhaustion. Instead, the focus is on building strength that can translate into the things you actually do every day.

You’ll work through exercises including:

  • Dumbbell rows to strengthen the upper back and help counteract some of the effects of poor posture
  • Reverse lunges to build strength and stability in the legs and hips
  • Bicycle crunches to engage your abdominal muscles and core
  • A variety of additional strength movements followed by a satisfying stretch session

All you need is a mat and a pair of dumbbells, making this an easy workout to do at home!

Why Combine Strength Training and Stretching?

Strength training is an important part of maintaining a healthy, capable body as we age. Strong muscles can help support our joints, improve stability, and make everyday movements feel easier.

But strength is only part of the equation.

Taking time to stretch and move through a comfortable range of motion can help you release some of the tension that builds up from sitting, working, driving, or simply moving through a busy day.

Combining the two gives you a nice balance: challenge your muscles, then give your body a chance to slow down and lengthen.

Start Your Morning With Some Time for Yourself

Back-to-school season can bring a lot of activity and responsibility, but the same principle applies year-round: taking care of yourself isn’t selfish.

Even a relatively short workout can be a reminder to pause and reconnect with your body.

You don’t need a perfect morning routine or a fancy home gym. Put down your mat, grab your dumbbells, and give yourself a little time to move.

Ready to Give It a Try?

Press play above and follow along with Arielle Creager and PS Fit for this strength and stretch workout you can do from home.

As always, listen to your body and modify exercises as needed. If you’re pregnant, recently postpartum, or returning to exercise after an extended break, choose modifications appropriate for your individual needs and consult your healthcare provider when appropriate.

A stronger body isn’t just about how you look — it’s about making everyday life a little easier. So take a little time for yourself today and get moving!
