If you’re trying to lose weight, you may be trying to avoid sugar. But using this common artificial sweetener may be harming your health – and could actually cause weight gain!
You probably know that eating a lot of sugar isn’t good for your health, so many health-conscious individuals have switched to artificial sweeteners over the past couple of decades. Unfortunately, many of these sweeteners have turned out to be potentially even worse for you than sugar!
One of the worst offenders is called aspartame. You may know it by the name NutraSweet, Equal, or Amino Sweet, and you can find it in everything from yogurt, to chewing gum, to soft drinks, and more. In fact, most “diet” sodas and other foods contain aspartame, but despite the “diet” name, consuming foods containing aspartame has actually been linked to weight gain.
The FDA reports that of all complaints regarding food additives, 75% of them are related to aspartame, with over 90 different side effects being reported, ranging from digestive issues, to migraines, to memory loss, to seizures and even death.
