[Healing Recipe] Turmeric Decongestant Honey

Relieve inflammation and congestion with this soothing all-natural turmeric decongestant honey recipe…

This week’s recipe is a healing and soothing natural remedy to have on hand for the start of cold and flu season. A natural decongestant, honey is also anti-bacterial and helps to soothe coughs and sore throats – plus, it’s one medicine the kids won’t mind taking! It’s no wonder it’s used in so many home remedies – and has been since the beginning of time.

While the honey is soothing and tasty, the turmeric in this easy recipe will help to reduce inflammation and swelling in the mucus membranes, cutting down on the amount of sniffling experienced during a cold. Ginger and black pepper will also help to clear and drain the nasal passages and provide a warming effect, while cloves will help to relieve pain and swelling.

This is a great remedy for when you’re very congested and feeling cold and sniffly. It’s not for those who may feel hot, dry, or feverish, and you should also not give it to children under 8 years of age.

While you could take this natural medicine straight from the jar, the most effective (and palatable) way to use it is to stir a spoonful into a mug of warm water and drink it like a tea.

(Note: For children over 8, use one teaspoon per cup of water. Adults may wish to take up to 1 tablespoon. This remedy contains honey, and should not be given to children under 1 year of age.)
