Foodie Friday Recipes: 4 Green Smoothies to Try for Breakfast

Bored with your usual green smoothies? Try these delicious and healthy green smoothie ideas for a change!

As we discussed earlier this week, green smoothies can be an easy way to get plenty of healthy and nutritious vegetables into your diet.

Sneaking vegetables into otherwise already delicious meals and drinks is really nothing new. Parents who are trying to get their children to eat better probably invented this trick! This is just one reason for the popularity of green smoothies, which provide a convenient, affordable and tasty way to incorporate vegetables into your daily meals. Plus they are refreshing and delicious!

Of course, variety is key in keeping up the habit. No matter how yummy a typical spinach, strawberry and banana shake is, you will eventually grow tired of it if you drink it every day – when this happens you risk derailing your plans to keep up your healthy lifestyle.

If you’re running out of green smoothie ideas, below are a few delicious new recipe ideas to try that will give your tastebuds and your body a treat!

Spinach Orange Green Smoothie

Kick your breakfast up a notch by incorporating a little bit of spinach into your breakfast orange juice!

Here’s how:

Combine Greek yogurt, oranges (or orange juice), spinach, and a bit of almond milk in a blender and blend until smooth.

Matcha Green Tea Smoothie

Spinach and kale are popular in green juices and smoothies. They can be added to the drink without substantially changing the flavor and the taste is more subtle than that of other types of leafy greens.

Not only that, but they are both superfoods and pack quite a lot in health benefits.  They are a good source of the vitamins and minerals you need to keep your body healthy.

But why not try something else green for your green smoothie? Matcha, a type of green tea, has more of an earthy flavor that can really amp up the taste of your drink. Since matcha contains caffeine, it can also give you that extra boost you need in the morning.

Blueberry Mint Green Smoothie

Blueberries are an amazing superfood!  Blueberries in general are great antioxidants. They are a formidable source of vitamins K and C. When you mix blueberries in a smoothie you’ll get a beautiful purple color – even with kale or spinach! Adding mint gives it a unique and refreshing flavor.

Try this version from The Merry Thought:

2 cups spinach (These will blend better if you freeze them beforehand)
2 cups blueberry (I used 1 c. fresh and 1 c. frozen)
1 kiwi
3-4 large mint  leaves
1 cup coconut water
1 cup ice

Put all ingredients in a blender and mix it up! (Makes 2 servings.)

Flax & Oats Green Smoothie

Oat smoothies might sound a little weird, but they are both healthy and filling.  This is a good way to enjoy oatmeal in the summer when you may not be in the mood for a hot breakfast.

Oats and flax contain healthy fats, and are also a great way to get your daily dose of healthy fiber!

Try this one for a healthy breakfast that will keep you satisfied for hours!

Kale Oatmeal Smoothie

While green smoothies make a great breakfast, you can enjoy them any time of the day for a healthy boost of nutritious veggies!
