[Foodie Friday Recipe] Love Your Liver Herbal Tea

Enjoy this delicious herbal tea after a meal to support your liver health and improve digestion.
Herbs have been used by humans for centuries for just about every different health purpose under the sun – from wound care and healing to preventing illness, promoting better sleep, improving sex drive, or simply improving overall health. They have also been used in many different forms – from poultices and tonics to teas, tinctures, and in the modern world, they often come as supplements in pill form. Making your own herbal tea is one simple way to enjoy and benefit from herbs.
Most people buy tea in pre-made tea bags, and while this is certainly convenient, it can be difficult to find the herbs you want in this form if you are looking for a specific herb or herbal blend for a specific purpose. Making your own herbal tea blends can be a fun and educational way to learn to use healing herbs. Plus, by sourcing and mixing your own herbs, you can have a better idea of the quality of the herbs you’re consuming. It’s also possible to customize your blends to your taste and to include the specific benefits you want.
For example, this recipe from the author of the best-selling book, Alchemy of Herbs, provides support for your liver, tastes delicious, and is also great to drink after a meal to help improve digestion. Dandelion root and chicory assist with liver function and improve digestion of fats, cacao adds delicious flavor and helps to stabilize blood sugar, orange peel stimulates digestion, and turmeric encourages bile production. Add a dash of black pepper to bring out the flavors and improve absorption, and honey to taste. (Use raw honey for additional health benefits.)
