You’ve probably heard athletes talk about consuming a post-workout shake to help them build muscle or recover more quickly from a hard workout, but that’s not the only reason a shake can be a great idea after working out.
Often you may feel tired, drained, and hungry after a good workout. Unfortunately, this often leads to unhealthy food choices that may be convenient, but that frequently consist of junk foods that kind of defeat the purpose of burning all those calories in the first place!
Instead of reaching for a fast-food meal after leaving the gym, head home and whip up this quick and delicious post-workout shake from nutritionist and fitness expert, Yuri Elkaim, author of Eating For Energy. It’s packed with awesome protein, healthy fats, and fiber – the perfect combination of nutrients to consume after a good workout! (And yes, beans in a shake may sound a bit strange, but this high-protein food adds a nice, creamy consistency and other than that, you won’t even notice they’re there.)
