4 Reasons Why Yoga Makes An Ideal At-Home Workout

Yoga is a great at-home workout, as it allows you to customize your practice to suit your needs.
Last week, we talked about some great ways to get more exercise without going to the gym. However, one of our favorite at-home workouts that we did not cover last week is yoga. While yoga studios, classes, and groups are increasingly popular these days, they still necessitate going somewhere to work out, which so many busy people don’t have the time for in today’s fast-paced world.
The good thing is, you can get the benefits of a great yoga workout in your own home. Here are a few reasons why yoga makes the perfect at-home workout:
1.) No Time Constraints
One of the biggest reasons that yoga is great for doing at home is because it has no time constraints. There are loads of different yoga workouts of different lengths and variations, so whether you have 10 minutes, or an hour to exercise, you can find a yoga workout perfect for you!
If you want to do your yoga routine first thing in the morning, you can. If you can’t sleep and feel that yoga would help, you can do it then as well. Unlike fast-paced cardio exercise, yoga is fine to do close to bedtime, and won’t keep you awake (in fact, it could even help you sleep better).
And because yoga requires no specialized equipment, it can be done on your time, wherever and whenever it works for you.
2.) Yoga Workouts Are Customizable
When you do yoga at home, you can adjust the workouts to your needs. If you go to a yoga class at the gym, you are stuck doing whatever the instructor is teaching that day. If you do yoga at home, you can choose whichever style, speed, and workout length you are in the mood for – it’s as easy as pulling up a new video or switching out a DVD!
3.) Choose Your Own Equipment
Yoga typically doesn’t require a lot of equipment, which makes it perfect for an at-home workout. You will probably want at least a yoga mat, but you can also pick up a strap and/or a block for very little cost if desired – or if you don’t need these things, you can skip them. You can also personalize your setting with candles, incense, or music to suit your mood.
4.) Ability to Go at Your Own Pace
This is one of the best reasons to do yoga at home. You can always feel free to go at your own pace, choose the styles that work for you, and proceed as slowly or quickly as you like as you learn to feel and notice your body’s cues. In a larger studio class, you may feel pressured to move faster than you would like, or to do poses you aren’t ready for. Doing yoga at home allows you to be more in tune with your own body’s needs, instead of getting distracted by what others are doing around you.
When it comes down to it, the biggest reason to do yoga at home is because yoga is designed to be a personal practice. When you do it at home, you can center your yoga sessions around your schedule, your preferences, your fitness level, and your body’s needs. Not only will you get more out of your yoga practice in terms of health, but you will likely enjoy it more as well!
