3 Tips for Getting More Exercise Even When You’re Busy

Do you find it hard to fit enough exercise into your busy day? Here are 3 tips for getting more exercise, even when you’re really busy!

Eating healthy is one of the most important ways to achieve good health – but true holistic health is about more than just what you eat. To be healthy on all levels requires good sleep, stress relief, and of course, plenty of exercise! A few of our readers have commented that we don’t spend much time talking about exercise here – and this is true – until now…

Up until now, we have maintained a separate blog on exercise, but as of September, we are going to be combining our blogs, so you will now see exercise tips here, as well as a weekly workout! We know you’re busy, so our goal for all of our workouts is that they be easy to fit into your schedule. For the most part, our weekly workouts will all be 30 minutes or less, and we’ll try to post a variety of styles to challenge your whole body, and provide both cardiovascular and strengthening and toning benefits. Be sure to check back next Wednesday for your first weekly workout!

In the meantime, this week we’re sharing some helpful tips on keeping up with your exercise routine – even when you have a busy schedule.

It’s hard to believe, but fall is right around the corner, and as we draw closer to the holiday season, one of the first things to go in all the hustle and bustle is exercising.  It might seem like you have valid reasons to “put off” exercising, but the reality is that once you stop making exercise a priority it is hard to get back into the routine.

While you’re at your busiest it might seem easier to skip a few workouts, but it is actually better if you just suck it up and get them done!  Make the time. It doesn’t have to take long, and you don’t have to spend hours at the gym to get the benefits of exercise. You will be happy you did, and your body will be happy you did. Exercising will even help keep some of the stress that comes with this busy season at bay.

Here Are 3 Tips To Help You Get More Exercise Even With a Busy Schedule:

1.) Get Up Early To Exercise

One way to make sure you get enough exercise is to get up earlier than normal.  If you are already getting up early to get your fitness in this won’t be an issue.  If you’re running from the moment you get up until evening this might be the best solution.

This works really well for some people and not so good for others.  You have a lot on your plate, so make sure you are getting enough sleep as well.  Get your clothes, lunches, backpacks and all other essentials for the day ready the night before.  That way you’ll have more time available in the morning to get your workout done.

2.) Fit In Short Bursts of Exercise During the Day

Many experts are now saying that exercising throughout the day is better than trying to do it all in one long stretch.  Moving around more throughout the day can combat the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, which are now collectively called “sitting disease.”

So instead of taking fifteen minutes to an hour to exercise in one span, instead take a short five-minute break and go for a walk. Do this several times throughout the day. If you have access to stairs then climb them.  A couple of quick jaunts up and down the stairs and you’ll really be feeling it!

3.) Find Creative Ways to Incorporate More Exercise Throughout Your Day

One of the easiest ways to get more exercise into your daily routine is to park farther away from your destination.  Yes, it may take a few more minutes to get to where you are going, but your health is important and taking those extra few steps will help you stay healthy!

When you’re talking on the phone at your desk, do a few exercise moves.  Stand up if you can, and try some squats, or pace back and forth while talking.

You could even purchase a standing desk or other under-the-desk exercise equipment. This way, you can get exercise even while you’re working!

As you can see there are a number of ways to get plenty of exercise even when your schedule gets busy.  Don’t use being busy as an excuse. After all, exercising is one of the best ways to relieve stress, so if you have an extra-busy lifestyle, you need exercise more than ever!
