3 Holistic Health Remedies That Cost Next to Nothing

Improve your health naturally with these 3 holistic health remedies that are totally free – or just about!
Chronic illness can be not only debilitating in every way, but it can also be financially devastating. The cost of medical treatment continues to skyrocket in our country, which is just one reason why more and more people are turning to natural and holistic health remedies.
However, holistic treatment can also be expensive – especially because most insurance plans won’t cover the cost of treatments with a holistic or functional medicine doctor.
As the old adage goes, prevention is the best treatment, and in almost all cases, it will also be the least expensive. Fortunately, there are hundreds of different ways to improve your health on your own and hopefully prevent chronic illnesses from befalling you in the first place. If you do get sick, you can also use natural remedies to help heal yourself, and only use a holistic doctor when you really need to.
Below are three interesting holistic health remedies that will cost you nothing at all – or next to nothing – and could potentially improve your health dramatically over time.
1.) Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is a natural healing method has been used in India for centuries. It’s so easy to do, and the only thing you need to buy is your preferred oil of choice.
All you do is put 1-2 teaspoons of oil in your mouth and swish it around for 10 to 15 minutes. This may seem like a long time, and it will probably be difficult at first. So just do your best. Start with pulling for a minute or two and try to work up to longer sessions. I like doing oil pulling while watching TV or doing chores. When you have something to distract yourself, it will be easier to go longer.
Many people use organic coconut oil for oil pulling – and this is my favorite as well. But you can also use olive oil, grapeseed oil, sesame oil or flax seed oil. Some holistic health experts believe that oil pulling helps restore your health by gently detoxing your body, and boosting your natural immunity.
This theory has yet to be proven by science. However, there is evidence that oil pulling does reduce plaque and inflammation of the gums. There is plenty of scientific research showing that an unhealthy mouth is linked to a number of health problems including heart disease and other inflammatory conditions, so it stands to reason that by improving your oral health, you will not only have healthier teeth, but better overall health as well.
2.) EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) – or Tapping
Emotional Freedom Technique is another natural healing method. It’s totally free, and it’s easy to do, though it may seem a little weird at first! Emotional Freedom Technique is often called tapping or EFT tapping. This is because you use your fingertips to tap on certain meridians located on the upper body.
Tapping is backed by science and has been proven to reduce or eliminate the effects of post-traumatic stress syndrome.
So what’s the catch? There doesn’t appear to be one!
Tapping is easy, free, and can be done in the privacy of your home. It seems to work immediately, and the effects seem to be long-lasting, if not permanent. You can read more about tapping here.
3.) Earthing
… Earthing costs nothing as it simply involves putting your body in contact with the ground. It may sound a little “woo-woo,” but the theory behind earthing is that the earth is negatively charged. Touching it or walking on it counters positively charged free radicals, which damage your DNA.
Rubber soled shoes (which most of us wear all the time) create a barrier between you and the earth. Unless you are a gardener, you probably don’t spend a lot of time actually touching the earth, and some health experts believe this is a detriment to our health.

Earthing is supported by a small number of studies. Natural health advocate Dr. Andrew Weil, MD notes that early research shows earthing seems to lead to better sleep, as well as less pain and anxiety. However, he noted that more research is needed before anyone can definitively make these claims.
