Did you know that many cosmetics – including lipstick – may contain harmful chemicals and other unhealthy ingredients such as lead? We all know by now that lead is bad for our health, yet many of us women apply it to our lips (and then accidentally consume it) on a daily basis.

The good news is, there are many safer alternatives on the market these days. But sometimes they can be pricey. If you’re on a budget, why not make your own lipstick?

That’s right! You can easily make your own lovely shades of lipstick using all-natural and non-toxic ingredients such as coconut oil, beeswax, and crayons! Yep, the kind kids color with… Many (though not all) crayons are non-toxic, so that if kids end up eating them, they won’t be harmed.*  And you can have fun mixing and creating your own color shades!

* Be sure to choose a crayon with all-natural ingredients, such as beeswax, carnauba wax, soy wax, and mineral pigments, and remember that although they are non-toxic, crayons have not been professionally tested for cosmetic use.
